“Members may have seen press coverage of Croydon Council’s financial situation. Some members have expressed concern about the security of the money held in their share accounts in these circumstances. We are providing this statement to reassure members.

As a Credit Union, Croydon, Merton and Sutton Credit Union (trading as Croydon Plus) is a separate legal entity from the Council. This means that there is no risk to members’ funds from any action that may be taken by the Council.

Croydon Plus is currently solvent with reserves above the level required by the Prudential Regulation Authority. We have no reason to expect any change to this situation in future. In the unlikely event of future insolvency members’ funds would be protected by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme.”

In light of the on-going situation with the Coronavirus (COVID-19), the offices of CroydonPlus Credit Union have been temporarily closed to the public. This decision has been taken in order to limit the potential impact which this virus may have in the local community and to protect our members, staff and volunteers.

We understand that this may cause some inconvenience, but we believe that it is appropriate in light of the current situation and in the best interest of the communities which we serve.

We would like to reassure all our members that we are still here to help and you will be able to access services in the following ways during the temporary closure:

  • To speak to a member of staff: call 0208 760 5711,  10.00 – 15.00, Monday to Friday
  • Submit account queries via email:
  • Use our website to see your accounts, apply for loans, change your details, transaction. To access this click ‘Members Login’ on the website. If you are not already an online user registration instructions can be found on our website.
  • Our Mobile App Croydon Plus Credit Union – You can use our new “Chat” feature in the App to communicate with a member of our team  . This can be downloaded from Google Play Store or Apple Store by searching “Croydon Plus”

Please be aware that whilst we will try our best to keep all our services running as normal, (particularly priorities, such as savings withdrawals) there may be some unavoidable delays if staff are unable to get in to the office. We apologise in advance for any inconvenience that this causes.

Loans and other processes may take longer to progress than usual so please be patient when dealing with staff members.

We will continue to monitor the current position and updates will be made available on our website and social media channels as appropriate. We hope to re-open the office to visitors soon.

If you have any questions about this or anything else relating to your account, please contact us on the details above.

In the meantime, please take care and we hope both you and your families are well.
